How to Make a Chinese Dish Low Calorie

If you’re like a lot of people, you have an interest in eating healthy. Unfortunately, eating healthy and eating your favorite foods are not always in harmony. This is particularly true when talking about Chinese food, which is notoriously high in fat and calories when you order it in your favorite restaurant. This doesn’t need to be the case, though. If you know a few basic tricks, you can learn how to transform high-calorie Chinese dishes into low calorie masterpieces.

By changing your techniques and making intelligent compromises, you can slash the amount of calories in your dish dramatically. For the purposes of this example, let’s consider the popular dish called Sweet and Sour Chicken. If you order Sweet and Sour Chicken in a Chinese restaurant, you will get a plate full of deep fried chicken topped with a sweet, thick sauce. A typical serving of this dish can contain more than a thousand calories, or half a day’s worth of food for one person. Most of the calories in this dish come from deep frying the chicken and from the sugar used in the sauce. To offset these extra calories, we can do a few things.

First of all, we need to eliminate the deep fried chicken element of the dish. Reducing the amount of oil in your food is very important because oil is very high in calories. One tablespoon of oil contains approximately 120 calories and when you deep fry things, they soak up oil in large amounts. If the cook is unskilled and fries at low temperatures, the food can absorb even more fat. One way to get rid of the extra oil is to turn to baking rather than deep frying. To do this, you will need to modify your recipe slightly. Most Sweet and Sour Chicken recipes call for dipping the chicken pieces into a batter and then deep frying. Instead of doing that, eliminate the batter and bread the chicken pieces with some Japanese panko bread crumbs. Once you have done that, put the pieces onto a baking sheet and give them a light spray with vegetable cooking spray, which contains less than 10 calories per spray. From there, place the chicken into the oven till it is golden brown. The final result will be chicken that has a crunchy exterior like the deep fried version but with a whole lot less fat and calories.

Next, you can lower the amount of calories in the dish by making wise decisions on what cut of meat that you use. In this example, you should opt for skinless chicken breasts rather than dark meat, which is higher in saturated fat and calories. If you’re cooking other dishes, switch to leaner cuts of meat. In general, cuts of meat that are named “loin” (tenderloin, sirloin, etc) are lower in fat and thus in calories.

How To Make Healthy Soup

If a person wants to take a crack at making healthy soup, they’ll find that it is super easy to make. There are things that they need to keep in mind, and most of all, they need to keep in mind their health conditions, as well as the health conditions of other people who might eat the homemade soup. That is to say that they should stay away from any ingredients that will add to much sugar. They should also stay away from any ingredients that will raise the sodium count in the soup to an unreasonable level. The great thing about soup is that when a person is creating a broth, they will be using a chicken broth, a beef broth, or a vegetable broth to create something that is healthy.

Chicken broth is the most common base for soup, and it is the most versatile. Of course, chicken broth is used for chicken soups, but it can also be used as a base for vegetable soups as well. It’s also the most common to find. Chicken broth can be found in any grocery store, either in the can, or in a box. Or, if you have some leftover chicken parts in the refrigerator, or in the freezer, simply put these in the water with some seasoning, and now you’ll have some chicken broth. It’s just that simple, and the taste is unbelievable.

Beef broth is pretty easy to find in stores as well. Some people make beef broth-based soups, but beef broth tends to find its way into stews, and into meat pies. But a special note is French onion soup. Beef broth is the base for this soup, and because the soup is clear, this soup is healthy, as well as rich in flavor.

Vegetables can be simply boiled with seasoning, and they can create their own broth. One can also buy common vegetables, heat them, mash them, and freeze them. They’ll be ready for the cook when the cook is ready to create a fresh tasting soup that will outdo anything that can be bought at the store, anytime of day. Again, if a person is concerned about creating a healthy soup, then they need to make sure that they are taking their health considerations into account. Having said this, don’t be afraid to get creative when you are inventing ways to make a healthy and hearty soup for yourself, or for your family. If you need help with regards to recipes, there are plenty of them online, and on certain websites. You might not realize how easy it is to make a delicious, hearty, and healthy soup. But once you try it a couple of times, you will be hooked, and you’ll never want to buy soup from the can ever again.

Preparing and Enjoying Meals With Your Child

Preparing meals and eating together is one of the best ways to teach kids healthy eating habits. Just like bedtime routines, kids also need meal routines. Mealtime should be a time for the family. Allow your kids to participate in the meal preparation and eat together at the table. Switch off the TV and talk together as a family.

Cooking with Kids

Letting your kids help in preparing meals will make them more inclined to try new foods. However, it is important to respect your kids’ choices. Studies show that requiring kids to try new foods might make them more resistant to tasting anything new or unusual. Encourage, but never force them to try new foods. Children as young as 3 years old can perform small tasks to help prepare meals and snacks.

Three year olds can:

· Wrap potatoes in foil

· Throw things in the trash

· Wipe tables

· Tear lettuce

· Mix ingredients

Four year olds can perform what three year olds can, plus:

· Peel oranges or hard-boiled eggs

· Mash bananas using a fork

· Set the table

Five year olds can do what 3- and 4- year olds can, plus:

· Measure ingredients

· Pour cold liquids

· Use an egg beater

· Snap green beans

Cooking with kids allows them to learn the importance of washing one’s hands before cooking (and eating) and how to work safely with foods and kitchen utensils. Preparing food with kids also encourages them to clean your workspace after cooking and even wash the dishes afterwards, with the help of safety step stools of course. What’s more, kids will also learn many important cooking skills and vocabulary.

A Chocoholic’s Diary

Sometimes the wonder of chocolate is overwhelming to me. I dream, think and sleep with chocolate thoughts swirling in my mind. For example right now I am wondering what it would be like to have a magical bar of chocolate that made you lose weight instantly. God forbid. I would die of a chocolate coma induced by overindulgence. With this in mind I guess we are better of not having such magical chocolate bars but I can dream of day where I can consume endless chocolate delights with no guilt or fear of my dimensions.

Do not get the wrong idea. While guilt may plague my passion for chocolate research it is basically powerless under the spell of this dark pleasure. No amount of guilt will get in the way of the next chocolate bar to cross my path. Chocolate manufacturers should do something and come up with some guilt proof chocolate soon. Honestly, I do not think I am going to break up my love of Mr. Chocolate any time soon. After all it has been proven that chocolate is healthy and I understand it is actually good for the heart. Not just romantically but medically. Well, this is reason enough for me to continue dreaming, yearning, seeking and finally, munching on my favorite chocolates for eternity.

The magic of chocolate is simply astounding. Have you ever realized how right it feels to meet nice and good looking chocolate? I often hear someone quoting a mellow voice as chocolate coated or luscious lips as chocolate velvet. This in my opinion shows that nature and our own brains have conditioned us to relate chocolate only with what we consider to be fine and attractive. How then can we invert this and start regarding chocolate as dangerous or fattening. These sort of chocolate thoughts are not very compelling. Or should we recondition our minds to start thinking otherwise about chocolate? I do not think it will work; after all we are already deeply involved with chocolate. It may be too late to change the rules. What would be the excuse after all, irreconcilable differences?

To bring my long trail of thoughts to a closure, I have to say one more thing loud and clear. Chocolate is friendly, not only to our taste buds but to the entire body but only if its quality chocolate and taken in considerable measures too. When all is said and done am not sure I want to end my long term relationship with any form of my chocolate fascination. Yet I will always be torn by the fact that something so good for me can also be so bad for me.
