I have often heard that candy is bad for me. Sometimes the feelings of our sins washed over me because I won more and more delicious chocolate. There is no doubt that The future of chocolate is more surprising discoveries of mankind. I feel fortunate to live in all the chocolate has become so important to life on earth. There are a lot more chocolate than anyone can imagine.

It’s Hard to Imagine a World With No Chocolate

Chocolate has changed the lives of billions of people since it was first discovered. It comes from the cocoa bean which is over 4000 years old. Ancient cultures worshiped this magical black bean and thought that it was a gift from the heavens. These early cultures made a thick rich drink from the cocoa beans. Some early cultures even used the cocoa bean as a means of currency. There were a lot of things that this bean could buy. Four beans could buy you dinner. The cocoa bean consumed alone is bitter and was in fact pushed aside by the first Spanish conquistadors. They had no idea what they had discovered and brought back with them to to their countries.

The Spanish brought with them a method for making for this bitter beverage. It was not all that popular until the well known Spanish explorer Cortez decided to mix the bitter beverage with sugar. Subsequently it became a sensation and only royalty was allowed to drink this wonderful drink. They included other spices nutmeg and vanilla. They managed to conceal this drink from the world for over 100 years! From that point on it rapidly travelled around the planet. Various cultures began brewing it in a number of ways, changing it, and incorporating other ingredients. It was gradually evolving into the delicious sweet candy that we know in modern times.

Today you can come across this delicious dark candy all over the world and it is available in just about any variety conceivable. You will come across chocolate in milk, biscuits, coffee, candies, cereals, chocolate covered fruit, ice cream and you can even drink chocolate wine! And you can of course buy chocolate presents! You won’t find a better offering for any candy lover than a box of chocolates. Do you realise what the top selling item is on Valentine’s day? Chocolates! More people exchange chocolate gifts on this day than any other kind of gift. All of us know the way to man’s heart is via his stomach and apparently the way to get to woman’s heart is through a gift of this gorgeous sweet treat!

It also makes a fantastic present on other special occasions too. At Easter Several million youngsters will excitedly look to see if they have been visited by the Easter bunny. Who knows how many plastic eggs will be hidden with this most coveted gift inside. At Christmas time a certain white-bearded man has been known to stuff Christmas stockings to the brim with this dark sweet treat.

Easy Recipes for Enjoying Chocolate Pastries

Chocolate is one of the most special desserts in our lives. Who hasn’t seen a toddler with a chocolate face and a proud Senior Citizen smiling over their chocolate birthday cake? The love of chocolate reaches over all generations. Chocoholics can be found in almost every situation; in the family, at the office, at school, church, etc. Anytime you want to find a recipe to go over big with the crowd, turn to chocolate. And we are making that easy with this article by offering chocolate recipes for a variety of desserts! Personal Chocolate Malted Tarts, Almond Topped Chocolate Turnovers, and Chocolate Marshmallow Pie will be a hit with the Chocoholics in your life, including you!

PERSONAL CHOCOLATE MALTED TART
1 quart ice cream, chocolate or vanilla
3/4 cup crushed malted milk balls, divided
4 (4-inch) graham cracker tart shells
3 tbsp chocolate malted milk powder
3 tbsp marshmallow creme
1 tbsp milk
1 cup whipping cream, whipped

Remove ice cream from freezer and allow to stand at room temperature for 5 minutes to soften. Spoon into a bowl and stir until creamy. Add 1/2 cup of the malted milk balls; mix well. Spoon the mixture into the tart shells and smooth the tops. Cover and freeze until firm, about 10 minutes.

In a medium sized bowl, blend the malted milk powder, marshmallow creme, and milk. Gently fold in the whipped cream. Spread this mixture over the frozen tarts, covering completely. Sprinkle the remaining crushed malted milk balls over the top. Freeze until serving time.

ALMOND-TOPPED CHOCOLATE TURNOVERS
1 sheet refrigerated pie dough
1/3 cup almond paste
6 tbsp chocolate chunks
1 egg, beaten
sliced almonds for garnish
1 1/2 tsp sugar for garnish

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Grease a baking sheet with canola oil or spray with a nonstick cooking spray.

Place the dough on a floured surface. Fold in 2 opposite sides to meet in the middle; roll to 12-inches x 8-inches. Cut the dough into 6 squares. Shape the almond paste into 6 disks and place 1 disk in the lower corner of each square; top with 1 tablespoon of the chocolate chunks. Brush the squares with some of the egg. Fold the dough over the filling to make a triangle; seal the edges with the tines of a fork. Using remaining egg, brush the top of the turnover and sprinkle with almonds and a pinch of sugar on each. Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes or until golden brown.

Note: You could also make this with Nutella as the filling.

CHOCOLATE MARSHMALLOW PIE
1 graham cracker pie shell
30 large marshmallows
1/2 cup milk
1 cup whipping cream, whipped
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 squares unsweetened baking chocolate, finely grated

Heat milk, do not boil, in a saucepan. Add the marshmallows and stir until melted. Allow to cool. Stir in the chocolate* and the vanilla extract. Gently fold in the whipped cream. Refrigerate at least 4 hours before serving.

A Chocoholic’s Diary

Sometimes the wonder of chocolate is overwhelming to me. I dream, think and sleep with chocolate thoughts swirling in my mind. For example right now I am wondering what it would be like to have a magical bar of chocolate that made you lose weight instantly. God forbid. I would die of a chocolate coma induced by overindulgence. With this in mind I guess we are better of not having such magical chocolate bars but I can dream of day where I can consume endless chocolate delights with no guilt or fear of my dimensions.

Do not get the wrong idea. While guilt may plague my passion for chocolate research it is basically powerless under the spell of this dark pleasure. No amount of guilt will get in the way of the next chocolate bar to cross my path. Chocolate manufacturers should do something and come up with some guilt proof chocolate soon. Honestly, I do not think I am going to break up my love of Mr. Chocolate any time soon. After all it has been proven that chocolate is healthy and I understand it is actually good for the heart. Not just romantically but medically. Well, this is reason enough for me to continue dreaming, yearning, seeking and finally, munching on my favorite chocolates for eternity.

The magic of chocolate is simply astounding. Have you ever realized how right it feels to meet nice and good looking chocolate? I often hear someone quoting a mellow voice as chocolate coated or luscious lips as chocolate velvet. This in my opinion shows that nature and our own brains have conditioned us to relate chocolate only with what we consider to be fine and attractive. How then can we invert this and start regarding chocolate as dangerous or fattening. These sort of chocolate thoughts are not very compelling. Or should we recondition our minds to start thinking otherwise about chocolate? I do not think it will work; after all we are already deeply involved with chocolate. It may be too late to change the rules. What would be the excuse after all, irreconcilable differences?

To bring my long trail of thoughts to a closure, I have to say one more thing loud and clear. Chocolate is friendly, not only to our taste buds but to the entire body but only if its quality chocolate and taken in considerable measures too. When all is said and done am not sure I want to end my long term relationship with any form of my chocolate fascination. Yet I will always be torn by the fact that something so good for me can also be so bad for me.
